Dear friend,
I read that sakura (cherry blossom) season officially started this week in Japan. Through April, a flurry of pink petals will cover the country starting in the southwest and moving steadily northward to the Sapporo area. Often New York is on a similar timetable, so I was hopeful that I’d get a peak at some blossoms during a quick (48 hours!) business trip to the city earlier this week. (I’ve written about how spring comes slowly in the southwest, so I was perhaps a little over excited about this.) Alas, the city was still chilly and at times rainy, without the riot of color I had been hoping for. But then I returned home, and to my surprise, the cherry and plum trees had started to bloom here, pink and white beacons of spring springing.
