Tête du chien “Huck”

Hello friend,

Friday marked the anniversary of my pup Huck’s “Gotcha Day,” and after six years with this sweet, quirky, headstrong animal, you’d think I’d be reminiscing about all of the delight he’s brought to me. Instead I find myself returning to the story I was told about how he came to be rescued. It’s a sad one—he was found wandering the streets of L.A. and ended up in a high-kill shelter before being flown to NYC by a rescue organization. Evidently, he was so sick he only weighed 8 pounds, and from the looks of his Petfinder photo, a lot of that was matted, dreadlocks of fur. (For perspective, he now weighs a healthy 13 pounds.)
